You've really piqued my interest! After looking for an hour, I think they're black and red hornbills. I found a really similar picture on www.camacdonald.com/birding/asiavietnam.html when I googled "black and red hornbill," but the picture might be a black and red broadbill, which is something else entirely (no yellow eye-rings, only found in asia). There's another photo on www.rth.org/sdzoo/pix.html, but it isn't very clear. Anyway, they're lovely--but it doesn't sound like they are very pleasant neighbors!
